Illegal E-Bike Seized - King Georges Playing Field

Officers have seized an illegal e-bike/Sur-Ron following reports of anti-social behaviour on King Georges Playing Field in Skerton.🏍️

We will continue to target riders who use illegal E-bikes and Sur-Rons, particularly where they are ridden dangerously or causing anti-social behaviour (ASB) within our communities.

These bikes can pose a serious risk to both the rider and member of the public. Some of the main concerns include:

*Speed - Many illegal modified e-bikes can reach speeds far beyond the legal limit for an electrically assisted pedal cycle.

*No registration or insurance - Where a bike meets the definition of a motor vehicle, it may require registration, insurance and the appropriate license to be driven on a road, footpath, park etc.

*Danger to Pedestrians - Riding at high speed around parks, footpaths and playing fields can put children, dog walkers and other members of the public at significant risk.

*Serious Injury - High powered bikes can cause significant injuries to both riders and pedestrians if collision occurs.

If you choose to ride an Illegal E-bike or Sur-Ron, you can expect to be stopped and have your bike seized. We are continuing to focus on this issue and tackle the ASB these bikes/riders cause. We will continue to work with our communities and partners to identify and deal with those responsible for dangerous and anti-social riding.
